Product characteristics

ALTARAN S8/60 is a solution of sodium di-(2-ethylhexyl) sulphosuccinate in water. It is all-purpose rapid wetting agent. It excellently wets all kinds of materials. The product can be used everywhere, where rapid and complete wetting of arbitrary solid surfaces is needed. The absorption at higher temperatures is better, but the differences are not significant. ALTARAN S8/60 is used as wetting agent of solid surfaces in the building industry, flotation, mining industry and removal of dustiness, glass and  ceramic industry, textile industry (sizing, de-sizing, wetting, washing, bleaching, milling, dyeing, printing, finishing), cleaning and washing agents.

Features of a product

ALTARAN S8/60 is a clear, yellow up to yellow-brown liquid of an anionic character. The agent significantly decreases the surface tension of water and has strong foaming properties. ALTARAN S8/60 is diluted - while being stirred - with approximately fivefold amount of cold water. When lower amount of water is used a gel creates.

 Product processing

   1. Wetting of solid surfaces

1.1 Production of building materials and civil engineering

For wetting of aluminium powder and preparation of aluminium pastes, in the manufacture of silicate gaskets ALTARAN S8/60 is used in amounts of 4-9 g per kg of powder. For washing facades sprayed with synthetic coatings, ALTARAN S8/60 is used in amounts of 0.4 to 1.7 g per litre.

1.2 Flotation

For sorting of diamonds and semi-precious stones by the flotation method, ALTARAN S8/60 is added in amounts of 0.4 to 2.5 g per liter.

1.3 Mining industry and removal of dustiness by wet method

For sprinkling dust in front of mining combines, for manipulation with coal in closed areas, for  sprinkling wet industrial filters, ALTARAN S8/60 is used in amounts of 0.08 to 0.17 g per litre of service water.

 1.4 Glass and ceramic industry

For rinsing glassware (glasses, vases etc.) in the manufacture to prevent formation of water drops, which are visible on glass after drying, ALTARAN S8/60 is used in aqueous solutions in concentrations from 0.08 to 0.17 g per litre.

    2.    Textile industry

2.1 Sizing

Through the action of ALTARAN S8/60 the sizing agent penetrates better and more rapidly into the yarn, and the fibres become more perfectly sized. Amounts: 0.3-0.6 g/litre.

2.2 De-sizing

The use of ALTARAN S8/60 in combination with compounds based on bacterial amylase, is especially suitable in continuous methods of de-sizing, where ALTARAN S8/60 doesn´t act as a catalytic poison. Amounts: 0.8-2.5 g/litre.

 2.3 Wetting

All kinds of fibres are processed in a bath, containing 0.25-0.5 g of ALTARAN S8/60 per litre.

2.4 Washing

ALTARAN S8/60 increases the effectiveness of detergents. Recommended concentration is: 0.17 to 0.5 g/litre.

2.5 Bleaching

Even though ALTARAN S8/60 doesn´t show a stabilizing effect for peroxide bleaching baths, the goods are rapidly and completely soaked, which permits a uniform bleaching of materials. Recommended combination is 0.17-0.4 g/ litre of ALTARAN S8/60 and 0.5-1.0g /litre of RETAPON A.

2.6 Milling

It is possible to work in neutral or alkaline medium. Based on the type of textile, it is usually sufficient to use ALTARAN S8/60 in the amount of 0.8-1.7 % of the weight of the fabric.

2.7 Dyeing

ALTARAN S8/60 is not suitable as a direct additive to baths containing vat dye; however it can be effectively used in modified dyeing methods, e.g. Pad-jig, Pad-steam, pigmentation on jigger or winch beck, vat acid dyeing etc. Compared with other products, ALTARAN S8/60 has advantage of not supporting the running of colour into pigmented goods. Amounts: 0.4-1.7 g/litre

Amounts of other groups of dyes:

       Winch               0.17- 0.25 g/litre

      Equipments       0.25- 0.4 g/ litre

      Jiggers             0.4- 0.8 g/ litre

      Dyeing pad       about 0.8 g/ litre

 ALTARAN S8/60 doesn´t affect the reactivity of reactive dyes, or their extraction from baths. Due to its high absorption ALTARAN S8/60 enables the dyeing of grea clith without exceeding boiling or washing operations.

2.8 Printing

ALTARAN S8/60 is not recommended as a direct additive to printing pastes because of its foaming property. However, goods rinsed prior to printing in a bath containing ALTARAN S8/60 or padded with a weak solution and dried without washing acquire very good absorbency, producing better print.

2.9 Final adjustments

ALTARAN S8/60 in concentrations of 0.4 to 0.8 g/litre is recommended as an additive into impregnating baths, for crease resistant, shrink-proof, non-iron, stiffening, sanitary, anti-static and fireproof finishes. In some cases the admixture of ALTARAN S8/60 improves also angles of shrinkage.

    3. Cleaning and washing agents

ALTARAN S8/60 can be used as a component in cleaning and washing agents with wide range of applications. Sodium sulphosuccinate (ALTARAN S8/60) is used in amounts of 0.8 to 2.5 % of the total active substances content, such as alkylsulphates (ALTAPON DS), alkylpolyglycol ether sulphates (ETOXON 26%) and alkylbenzene sulphonates (ALSON TEA, ALSON NA). It is possible to use ALTARAN S8/60 as admixture into “slurries” for preparation of powder detergents. Amounts of 0.4 to 1.7 % increase the bulk weigh of the powders and absorbency power of the detergents.         

Packing, storage

ALTARAN S8/60 is supplied in 50 litre polyethylene cans or in other containers that have been discussed in advance. The transportation in storage tank is also possible. The recommended storage temperature is +5 up to +25 °C. Short-term exposure to the temperatures lower than 0 °C does not have any negative influence on the application characteristics of product. 

Transport

ALTARAN S8/60 is transported by covered transportation means and is not subject to the ADR/RID regulations.

Guarantee time

If the product is stored and transported according to the above mentioned conditions, its guarantee is 6 months from the date of stock-out.
